Easy Read

We have provided easy read information for Local Authorities, NHS and other public bodies.

Our easy read service is produced by experts by experience who have a learning disability/autism or both, to ensure that the document is understood by as many people as possible.

Our easy read team have two members of staff who have received training from Photosymbols, a company who provide a picture library of images for use in easy read information for people with a learning disability.  The training involves innovative ways to produce easy read information tailored specifically to the subject matter and its readers.

We use Photosymbols, and other images which best reflect the meaning of the text and are not subject to copyright.

We meet Mencap’s standards for easy read information.

Our images and wording are chosen by our advocates.  They are very proud of their easy read documents and are best placed to choose which words and images they best understand.

This is from a team of researchers at University of Sheffield who we commissioned some easy read for.

“We've had a really good experience with Sunderland People First interpreting some complex participating-facing documents into Easy Read for our research project. They were very responsive, helpful and supportive with what we wanted to achieve in terms of accessibility. There were some lovely points of attention to detail in terms of relating the Easy Read images specifically to our project (incorporating images of people on ventilation etc), which we found wonderful. Thanks so much for your work; we would highly recommend Sunderland People First to others needing Easy Read materials.”
