September 2026 update
The weather is certainly becoming colder, but that isn’t stopping the advocates at Sunderland People First!
We have once again had the pleasure of delivering Tier 1 and Tier 2 Oliver McGowan training sessions to health and social care staff.
Sunderland People First have also been collaborating with some local organisations on some exciting projects, which we hope to be able to share with you soon!
Our advocates have also created a brilliant video for the general public about inclusion. You can find out a little more about this below.
Inclusion Week (14th - 20th September)
Several of our advocates came together to create a brilliant video for National Inclusion Week. We started by explaining what makes Sunderland People First a genuinely inclusive workplace, before sharing some examples of reasonable adjustments that workplaces could implement to support people with learning disabilities and autistic people.
We had so much fun creating this video, and we hope that some of the information we shared can be put into practice in workplaces to help promote inclusion for everyone.

Monthly Drop-in
For this month’s monthly drop-in, we had a brilliant time getting creative and decorating our very own cork coasters! It was lovely to welcome some members of the public along to the session, where everyone had the opportunity to get involved, have some fun and show off their creativity. We saw some fantastic designs, including colourful F1 wheels and jigsaw pieces.
As well as getting creative, we also spent time playing some of our favourite board games, having a chat and enjoying a cup of tea together. These sessions are a great opportunity to meet new people, catch up with familiar faces and spend some relaxed time together in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
With Halloween fast approaching, we can promise that October’s session is going to be a spooky one! We have some fun Halloween-themed activities planned, so why not come along, get involved and see what we have in store?
